Alex Song was once ruling the Premier League with Arsenal following which he made his dream move to Barcelona and things were obviously going to be better from that point onwards.

But nothing of that sort happened as Song failed to establish himself in the Catalan first eleven and was frustratingly loaned out to West Ham United.

His loan spell with the London outfit did very little to revive his career and he was finally sold off to Russian side Rubin Kazan for free.

And it was in Russia that Alex Song’s problems started growing.

The Rubin Kazan management had shown promise of pumping huge amounts of money in a bid to turn the club into a European powerhouse but all those promises quickly vapourised.

Now Alex Song has revealed the hardships he had to face during his time at the Russian club.

“I spent my time sitting in my room and I would never even put the lights on when I was in there. I just sat with my computer, no television on, nothing, because I couldn’t understand any of the Russian TV,” he told the Telegraph.

“My whole life was just a computer and phone, and that’s not healthy. I don’t know why I didn’t switch the lights on.

“They worked, but I suppose I was feeling low and I was on my own.

“To have no money coming in made it very difficult. I had all these people working for me and helping me, and I had no income of my own,

“I basically lost a year of my career in Kazan. Now I am starting games and I am happy again.”

Rubin Kazan even refused to pay off Alex Song’s salary following which FIFA had to intervene into the matter and help the player get his dues.

Alex Song has finally left Rubin Kazan and joined Swiss Super League club Sion on a free transfer.
