Alfredo Morelos has been in fine form for Rangers during the past one and a half year and but sadly that form has not helped him get many national team call-ups.

So far the Colombian has managed to play only one game for the national side which came in September of last year and recently he expressed his desire to play under new coach Carlos Queiroz.

Last week, Alfredo Morelos had said: “For me, my main aim is to play for the national team and hopefully play in the Copa America this summer.

“I know for that to happen I have to keep working hard for Rangers.

“Carlos Queiroz has managed many very good teams and countries. He is a good person and a good coach. I’d love to work with him.”

And it looks like Queiroz has heard the striker’s plea as Alfredo Morelos has been called up for national team duty later this month.

On the 22nd of March, Colombia will take on Japan and four days later they will play against South Korea.

Both these games being friendlies, Carlos Queiroz is expected to check out as many players are possible which means Alfredo Morelos should see game time on both these days.

And this is where the problem lies for Rangers FC.

You see, the final friendly vs South Korea will be played on the 26th of this month and just days later the Gers will have to travel to Celtic Park for the Old Firm Derby.

Alfredo Morelos has been in top form for the Gers this season so there is no way that the striker will be benched for this game.

This means that right after Morelos wraps up his international duties, the striker will have to make the 5000 odd miles journey back to Scotland.

Yes, he will get to rest for a couple of days but such a long journey is sure to mess around with his fitness.

There’s hope that Carlos Queiroz will not use Alfredo Morelos fully given the national games will be friendlies but if the new coach does do it then Gerrard might shock us all by starting Morelos on the bench and instead give Jermain Defoe the duty up front.
