Rangers FC have suffered their first defeat of the 2018-19 season losing the Old Firm Derby 1-0 on Sunday.

Celtic FC were the first real opponents that Steven Gerrard’s side have faced this season and after the match, the Gers fans clearly understand that their team still has a lot of catching up to do.

The Light Blues signed 14 players during the summer transfer window which led many people to believe that Gerrard’s side has what it takes to win the Scottish Premiership. But the defeat to Celtic have brought them back to reality.

But in between this defeat, Rangers have provided some good news for their fans after the club revealed that Alfredo Morelos has signed a new deal with the club.

Rangers released an official statement in which they said: Rangers are today delighted to announce that Alfredo Morelos has signed a new contract with the club.

The Colombian striker, who was recently called up to the international squad for the first time, has extended his stay at the Light Blues until 2022.”

Morelos was one of the best performers for the Light Blues last season – scoring 18 goals. And this season too the Colombian has made a bright start having already netted 6 goals in just 13 games.

After signing the contract, Morelos said: “I am delighted to have extended my contract. This is such a massive club and I want to be with Rangers for as long as possible.

“I appreciate very much the support I have been given and I believe I have a special bond with the fans. To play in front of them always excites me.

“With the new manager here it feels as if we are building something special and I want to play my part in that and also repay the faith he and all the fans have in me.”

Having said all this, the harsh reality of the new contract is totally different.

While the fans might feel that Alfredo Morelos signing a new deal means that he will stay at the club for a long time but the striker putting pen to paper on a new contract simply means that the Light Blues will get a bigger transfer price out of him.

Alfredo Morelos was already on the brink of leaving Ibrox this summer with clubs like Bordeaux wanting to sign him. Steven Gerrard eventually priced out all the suitors but multiple reports have claimed that Rangers will find it really tough to keep him beyond the January transfer window.
