Celtic FC won the first Old Firm Derby of the season, 1-0 but that win like any other derby has come with a fair share of controversies.

While there’s no denying that the Hoops were the better team on Sunday but isolated incidents here and there have forced the Rangers fans to believe that the match was a bit one-sided.

The foul on Ryan Jack right before the Celtic goal is one such incident which has drawn a fair bit of attention since it was ignored by the referee who allowed the play to go on shortly after which the Bhoys scored.

But there were a few decisions that also went in favour of Rangers – one such being Allan McGregor’s cheeky flick at Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer which went unnoticed.

But Steven Gerrard instead of defending his No 1 has come out to say that it was a blatant foul which should have been punished.

Speaking after the game, Gerrard said: “I think he has lashed out. Of course, I will speak to him. I am honest. I will tell you what I see. If something is blatant it is blatant.”

But quite shockingly, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers chose to go the other way and claimed that it was just a coming together and Allan McGregor did not do anything wrong.

Rodgers said: “I didn’t see it as a foul. The ball came out of the box and both of them have come together.

“There wasn’t a lot of contact from both really. What is most important is the referee, Willie was right on the spot so he sees it.

“We still have a lot of work to do breaking away, it was very impressive. I thought we performed exceptionally.

“Allan McGregor has made some outstanding saves, we hit the crossbar, it probably kept the scoreline down a little bit.

“It was an outstanding win for us and equally a very good performance and I am delighted.”
