Alfredo Morelos picked up yet another red card this weekend when he was given his marching order during the Old Firm Derby.

The Colombian picked up his fifth yellow card of the season for elbowing Celtic midfielder Scott Brown which meant, the Gers had to be on the back foot for most of the match.

Alfredo Morelos picked the red card just after the half-hour mark but still the Rangers players put on a brave fight.

And after the game, everyone was expecting Steven Gerrard to come out in defence of his striker.

But instead of backing his main man, the Rangers boss seems to have taken a u-turn suggesting that Alfredo Morelos should be fined for his red card vs Celtic.

“No. Not anymore,” Gerrard said when asked about backing Alfredo Morelos.

“I have gone above and beyond for Alfredo.

“I have continued to protect him, support him and love him as a player and the person he is but I have to draw the line under it now and he will be punished internally.

“I will recommend to the board that he is fined a week’s wages and will also recommend that that fine should go to the supporters who came today because they are the ones who will suffer from his lack of discipline, also his team-mates as well.

“The money is no use to his team-mates it is more use to the supporters, that’s what I will recommend and we will see what happens from there.”

Alfredo Morelos might be the top goalscorer in the Scottish Premiership this season but his attitude is clearly not helping in balancing his superb talent.

Already there have been reports that a number of top European clubs have shown interest in signing Alfredo Morelos during the summer.

And we wouldn’t be surprised if the Gers choose to offload him at the end of the season in exchange of a hefty transfer fee.
