Anthony Martial became the first Man United player in seven years to score a hat-trick for the club as the Red Devils picked up a 3-0 win against Sheffield United.

With the three goals, Anthony Martial has now managed to score 14 goals in 25 Premier League matches and according to Dwight Yorke, the Frenchman has finally proved his worth at the club but can still improve by playing down the middle each and every week.

He told talkSPORT: “Martial’s hat-trick last night and the way he scored the three goals shows he’s an accomplished finisher.

“The fact is: when you play for United you’re scrutinised if you’re inconsistent and singled out for criticism if you don’t perform. We’ve got to remember these are young players and are very new into the Man United way of life.

“United are always linked with quality players and Harry Kane is at the top of the tree in terms of a No.9, he’s a complete player. But what we’ve seen is that United have invested a lot in young players and the No.9 position is a tricky position to play, it’s a specialist position, Ally [McCoist] will vouch for that.

“To be a No.9 you need to play there week-in, week-out; not one week on the left, then on the right and then you come back into the centre. The best goalscorers in the history of the Premier League, Alan Shearer, for instance, he only played in one position and he wasn’t interested in anywhere else.

“Martial has been at the club for a few years now and his preferred position is playing as a centre-forward, and he got his opportunity and he really made it count. So I think he’s ready to go.”

Anthony Martial undoubtedly has talent of the highest order but his attitude and body language on the pitch has been a subject of debate from the very first day.

And according to pundit Graeme Souness, the 24-year-old can learn a thing or two from his strike partner Marcus Rashford.

“The third one [goal] was class,” Souness told Sky Sports, as quoted by TEAMtalk.

“But we know he’s class. He’s got everything to be a top player if he could just have the same enthusiasm as Rashford the way he (conducts himself).

“There’s no doubt Martial is a proper player but he seems to hide it, sometimes he doesn’t seem interested but he was tonight. Maybe the answer is for him to score early in every game he plays and stays interested.”
