Celtic FC want to tie down 25-year-old midfielder Ryan Christie to a new deal the club, as confirmed by manager Neil Lennon a couple of days ago.

The Hoops boss had said, as per Daily Record: “That’s an avenue we will look to pursue. He was terrific for us last year and I’ve love to give him an extension.

“It’s all quiet right now in terms of talks because there’s been so much going on but we’ll be picking that up again soon.

“He scored 20 goals last year and I’m sure he would have added more if the season went on. That’s a fantastic return for a wide man. But it wasn’t just his goals. It was his all-round game that was so important for us.

“It’s like James Forrest and a good few others, they really weighed in and Ryan was right at the top as well.”

And now speaking about the new offer, Alan Hutton has admitted that it is no shocking news that Lennon wants the attacking midfielder to stay beyond the summer of 2022 since the 25-year-old is one of the key aspects which is helping Celtic remain above their Old Firm rivals.

Hutton told Football Insider: “Oh, no way. He’s been unbelievable since he signed to be fair to him. He’s popped up this season and scored and incredible amount of goals.

“It’s possibly the difference between Rangers and Celtic at the moment. When you look at it, Morelos and Edouard have very similar goal tallies but you look at the wingers – Ryan Kent and Christie, Forrest – the difference between them is the goals, simple as that.

“It doesn’t surprise me Celtic want to tie him down to a long-term deal and he thoroughly deserves it.”

During the 2019-20 season, Ryan Christie has been in sensational form, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists in just 24 Premiership matches for the Parkhead outfit.

Right now, the player’s current deal expires in 2022 but as per the reports, the new deal will not only hold him back longer but will also provide him with an upgraded salary.
