Arsenal have shown a keen interest in signing Ousmane Dembele from FC Barcelona but it looks like fellow Premier League rivals, Liverpool have also joined the race – as per Mundo Deportivo.

The report states: “Ousmane Dembélé has always been a footballer to the liking of Jürgen Klopp.

“Dembélé reappears strongly in the orbit of the current European champion, whose objective is to reinforce himself further to regain the throne already lost this year after the elimination in the second round against Atlético de Madrid.

“That is why in England they link the Barça winger as the main option for the front in case the ‘9’ Timo Werner cannot stop at Anfield.

“Although they occupy different positions, Klopp has an old aspiration in Dembélé since he could not train him in Dortmund when he was already in Liverpool but he enjoyed it from a distance shining in his old club.”

Are Arsenal set to miss out on Ousmane Dembele?

Despite having a right-winger like Nicolas Pepe, Arteta has been eyeing a move for Dembele but now with the entry of Liverpool, things are about to get a whole lot tougher for the North London club.

The Gunners can never match the might or status of Liverpool. The Anfield outfit can not only guarantee Dembele a chance of playing in the Champions League next season but they can also assure him a genuine shot at winning trophies during the coming years.

While Arsenal can offer none of that at this point in time but the saving grace for Mikel Arteta is the fact that Ousmane Dembele is not the first priority target for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp – not till now.

As per the report, Liverpool still have Timo Werner as their No 1 attacking target and the German manager will only sanction a move for the Frenchman if he cannot get Werner in the summer.

So clearly, Arsenal still have a big enough window to assail ahead and wrap up this deal but we do not think their management will want to make Ousmane Dembele one of their first signings of the summer especially when they have other problematic areas to sort out before the new season kicks off.
