Rangers FC brought in Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth during the January transfer window on an 18-month loan spell.

And the former England international seems to have settled in quite nicely at Ibrox within such a short span of time.

Jermain Defoe was brought in Gerrard in order to bring about a sense of calm in the attacking third of his team and also to provide support to Alfredo Morelos as and when needed.

So far, the forward has managed to clock up six goals and five assists in the Premiership and instead of being a substitute, Defoe is now one of the first players that the Rangers manager named on his team sheet.

But despite all this success, the player could very well head back to the Premier League next season since the Cherries have the option of calling him back anytime during the next two transfer windows.

Bournemouth will remain in the top tier of English football next season and some people feel that their manager might just look to bring back Jermain Defoe in order to reshape his squad.

But now reports are claiming that Rangers are confident that the Cherries will not call back Defoe during the summer transfer window.

The report states that the Ibrox outfit have been informed that Bournemouth are not planning to exercise the callback option – not at least during the summer.

And this makes perfect sense too since Eddie Howe already has a great attacking pair in the form of Callum Wilson and Josh King and in January they had also brought in Dominic Solanke from Liverpool.

Solanke is yet to get off the mark for Bournemouth but surely the manager has not given up hope on his new attacking piece.

This clearly means that the Cherries currently have no use of Jermain Defoe if they were to call him back which means the 36-year-old should be staying at Ibrox for the 2019-20 season.
