Chelsea have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign right-back Thomas Meunier from PSG during the summer transfer window – as per Daily Mail.

Thomas Meunier is set to be a free agent in the summer and up until now, Spurs have been touted as the frontrunners to signing the 28-year-old Belgium international.

Now as per the report, the Blues have joined the transfer race as Frank Lampard looks to bring in reinforcements for the upcoming season.

Daily Mail claim: “Chelsea and Manchester United have reportedly made fresh enquiries for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier.

“As reported by L’Equipe, Tottenham remain in pole position to sign the right-back, who is set to become a free agent this summer.”

But Spurs and Chelsea aren’t the only clubs interested in signing Meunier since rumours suggest Juventus are also keeping tabs on the right-back and so it will be really difficult for the Premier League clubs to push a team like Juve to the side.

Do Chelsea even need Thomas Meunier next season?

Yes, the Blues have been linked with the PSG man but we do not think, Lampard will try and make a serious enough move for him during the summer transfer window.

Right now, Frank has more than a capable right-back in the form of Cesar Azpilicueta and this season, Reece James has also grown in leaps and bounds.

James has garnered praise from a lot of people so far and there’s very little doubt he is going to be the next long-term right-back at Stamford Bridge.

So in such a scenario, we do not think Chelsea will make a genuine attempt to even sign Thomas Meunier at the end of the season which is great news for Tottenham Hotspur.

Jose Mourinho badly needs defensive reinforcements for the 2020-21 season and Meunier could be the perfect addition to the backline.

After Kieran Trippier left for Atletico Madrid, Serge Aurier is the only top-class right-back available to Spurs which is why we, Jose will go all out to try and persuade the PSG man to snub all other interests and join them.
