Jack Grealish to Man City
Jack Grealish playing for Aston Villa

Man United have been chasing Jack Grealish for a good number of months now and according to Paul Merson, the playmaker will leave Aston Villa if the club are relegated to the Championship.

Grealish are has been one of the most talked-about players in the Premier League this season, scoring seven and assisting six goals in 26 league matches. And as per Merson, Man United could be finally getting their hands on the 24-year-old in the summer.

‘I would say 100 per cent. If Villa go down then I think they will get rid of Jack and he will be sold,’ Merson told Sky Sports, as quoted by Daily Mail.

‘He’s a Villa man through and through, he loves Aston Villa, but he will have to move on, there is no doubt about that if he wants to better himself.

‘It’s horrible saying that, better yourself, because it’s a great club, but he will have to play in the Premier League.

‘In this day and age, you play in the Premier League if you want to play for England. It’s very rare that you’re not playing in the Premier League or a top European league and you’re playing for England.

‘For me, he would have to be sold. I think it probably helps Jack Grealish. I think Jack Grealish was probably a 30-70 or 35-65 against him to go, so one more good season this year.

‘I think he will move on and I think it will help him.’

Can Man United sign Jack Grealish in the summer?

Right now, Aston Villa are 19th on the league table and there’s a major chance they will be moving down to the second division next season. And in such a scenario, there’s no chance Jack Grealish will be ready to demote down one level.

Also, owing to the current financial situation, Villa could look to sell some of their star players in order to fund their own transfers in the summer meaning Grealish might be available for sale even if the club do not want it.

Man United have already brought in Bruno Fernandes at the start of the new year and if they can manage to get Jack Grealish then the Red Devils have a massive chance of challenging for the league title next season.

But if the club can keep hold onto Paul Pogba beyond the summer then there’s a chance that Solskjaer might opt to pull the plug on the transfer for the 24-year-old.
