Chelsea have called Stamford Bridge their home for a pretty long time but now it looks like the Blues are finally searching for alternatives.

For some time now, the London outfit have been planning to increase the capacity of their home ground which currently stands at 41,631 – something that is pretty low for a world class club.

Initially, the Blues management had drawn up plans to boost the capacity to around 60,000 which would take them at par with the likes of Arsenal.

But last year, Chelsea revealed that they are currently putting the plans of expanding Stamford Bridge on hold.

A statement in May of 2018 read(as reported): “Chelsea Football Club announces today that it has put its new stadium project on hold. No further pre-construction design and planning work will occur.

“The club does not have a time frame set for the reconsideration of its decision. The decision was made due to the current unfavourable investment climate.”

The first major problem with the remodelling process would have included taking the nearby railway lines underground.

And now New Civil Engineer, are claiming that the expansion process has cost way overboard as a result of which the club have put the expansion of Stamford Bridge “completely on hold”.

Initially, the club wanted to do the work within a cost of £500 million but now the revised cost are set to stretch out to £1 billion.

Which is why it looks like the club are giving serious thought on moving out of Stamford Bridge.

As per reports, Chelsea are looking at Earls Court, White City, the Imperial Road Gasworks, Chelsea Barracks and Battersea Power Station as alternatives for their new home ground.
