Premier League side Man United are not keen to sign Thiago from Bayern Munich, who also happens to be a long-term target for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
A report in MEN claims: “Despite incessant speculation surrounding Thiago Alcantara, United have no intention of moving for the Bayern Munich midfielder and are convinced his representatives and Bayern are using their name to put pressure on Liverpool to make a bid.
“The former Bayern president Uli Hoeness said at the weekend Thiago ‘probably has an agreement with Liverpool or Manchester United, or with both’, yet United have just added a similar player in Donny van de Beek to their already impressive midfield department.
“Liverpool, in contrast, have only bought left-back Kostas Tsimikas for £11.75m this summer and there has been speculation over the future of midfielder Georgino Wijnaldum, who has entered the last year of his contract.
“United could have signed Thiago from Barcelona in 2013 but incoming manager David Moyes vetoed a move in favour of a fruitless pursuit of Cesc Fabregas and Bayern bought Thiago.”
Do Man United really not want Thiago?
Man United have just brought in Donny van de Beek from Ajax and we also feel the last thing on Ole’s mind would be to bring in yet another midfielder.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have been wanting to bring in Thiago for the longest time but they are unwilling to meet Bayern’s monetary demands.
The Anfield outfit clearly are not planning to spend big on someone whom they can sign for free next summer and maybe this is why Uli Hoeness and co are using Man United as leverage.
Thiago will no doubt be a fine addition to the Man United squad but as per the various rumours, Solskjaer is prioritising the signing of a couple of defenders before the transfer window shuts down.
