Rangers FC have spent around £5 million in the acquisition of defenders Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic during the summer transfer window but Steven Gerrard is still one centre-back short.

The Gers have already sold Bruno Alves to Parma while Fabio Cardoso is also expected to leave the club during the coming few weeks and the in such a scenario Gerrard is trying to find a backup centre-back.

Up until now, the Light Blues were chasing Milwall centre-back Jake Cooper but the Championship side do not seem to be too interested in letting go of the 23-year-old.

Reports suggest that Milwall have already rejected two bids placed by Rangers for Jake Copper with the last one being around £3 million.

While some reports have claimed that the Gers will go back for the defender with a third bid but it seems that Gerrard has suddenly shifted interest.

The Daily Mirror has been reporting that Rangers are likely to make a move for Blackpool centre-back Curtis Tilt after having watched him during a friendly match between Blackpool and Burnley.

Steven Gerrard knows very well that if he decides to move for Jake Cooper then the 23-year-old will cost upwards of £3 million while Blackpool are ready to let go of Curtis Tilt for a transfer fee of around £1 million.

Rangers’ two central defensive signings this summer – Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic are both left-footed centre-back while Curtis Tilt is a right-footed player which is exactly what Steven Gerrard needs.

But we feel that the Light Blues will not immediately make a move for Curtis Tilt as Jack Cooper is still their first priority target. And Gerrard will only order a move for the Blackpool man if he knows for certain that he cannot get Cooper.
