After Rangers FC announced Steven Gerrard as their new manager, winger Jamie Murphy became one of the first signings that the former Liverpool player had made at Ibrox.

But the Gers fans though were not particularly happy with the signing.

The 28-year-old joined Rangers during the January transfer window on a loan deal with a choice to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

And most of the fans were of the view that the club will not be triggering the clause especially after the player’s mixed bag performances during the 2017-18 season.

But Steven Gerrard went on and did just that – signing Jamie Murphy from Brighton for a fee of £600,000.

Now though according to a report in Sky Sports, £600,000 was the not the original sum of the transfer.

Sky is of the view that the Light Blues had actually place almost £1,000,000 in order to keep Jamie Murphy permanently – almost £400,000 more than what was originally reported.

And as soon as this news broke, the fans have been showing their discontent on social media.

Jamie Murphy is primarily a left-sided attacking midfielder but has played most of the 2017-18 season as a winger on the left flank but his stats do not show much promise.

For a player whose duty is to create goals and then score some himself, Jamie Murphy has managed to score only 5 goals and zero assists during his 18 appearances for the Gers.

On top of that, the player is not very good when it comes to helping out his defenders at the back – something that might be very crucial is Steven Gerrard wants Rangers to compete at the same level as Celtic.

Having said that though, Jamie Murphy has started this pre-season on a positive note as he featuring in both of Rangers’ games vs FC Shkupi in the Europa League qualifiers and was a scorer in the first leg.
