Premier League club Southampton FC reportedly want around £10million in exchange of their out-of-favour keeper Fraser Forster. And this amount might be too much for Celtic to shoulder, according to former England keeper Paul Robinson.

Fraser Forster has spent the 2019-20 season on loan with the Bhoys and Neil Lennon is desperate to sign him on a permanent deal before the next campaign kicks off in a couple of months time.

But according to Robinson, Southampton FC have placed an unrealistic price tag on Forster’s shoulders, especially when he is way down the pecking order at St Mary’s.

“Southampton have unfairly priced him out of a deal at the moment,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“We are talking about a player who has not been anywhere near the first-team squad in 12-18 months. He was surplus to requirements. He has gone to Celtic and rejuvenated his career and now looks like a top-class goalkeeper again.”

Will Southampton FC renegotiate?

£10million is a really rough price for Celtic to splash out, especially after such an unexpected shutdown. But Southampton FC might not be too eager to lower their demands since they don’t need any emergency funds.

But having said that, Celtic do have an ace up their sleeves in the form of Olivier Ntcham.

Ntcham has been a target for the Saints for a long time and there are rumours that Hassenhutl might be willing to enter into a swap deal for the midfielder and Fraser Forster.

This is the only way the Hoops will be able to get their hands on the 32-year-old keeper or else the manager will have to shift his focus to his other alternative targets.

Celtic have been eyeing moves for keepers like Ben Foster, Joe Hart and Claudio Bravo, all of whom are fine players but they will need to be convinced to ditch Premier League football and since for a Scottish side.

Fraser Forster, on the other hand, does not need any kind of push since he’s more than eager to end his professional career at Parkhead.
