Chelsea have been the favourites to sign left-back Ben Chilwell from Leicester City but as per The Telegraph, Manchester City have now grown a liking towards the 23-year-old.

The Blues have just about wrapped up the signing of Timo Werner and they were now expected to shift their focus to the England international. But it looks like Pep Guardiola’s side are about to rival them to this signing which is a piece of really unfavourable news for the Stamford Bridge outfit.

The report claims: “Manchester City are prepared to join the race for Ben Chilwell when the transfer window opens at the end of the season.

“The Leicester left-back, 23, is a target for Chelsea but has also been considered at the Etihad Stadium should they need to recruit in that position.

“Pep Guardiola has played Benjamin Mendy the most times at left-back this season and also has Oleksandr Zinchenko, although the Ukraine international could be moved into midfield.

“Chilwell will come into Guardiola’s thinking when he needs a left-back. However, Leicester’s valuation may prove an obstacle: they rate their full-back as highly as they did Harry Maguire, who went for a world-record £85million for a defender when he joined Manchester United.”

Will Chelsea miss out on Ben Chilwell?

Guardiola is clearly looking for an alternative to Benjamin Mendy and right now the Citizens have the financial sway to make a move for Ben Chilwell and pay Leicester their desired transfer fee.

Chelsea, on the other hand, could lose out on both Emerson and Marcos Alonso which is why signing a new left-back is one of Lampard’s utmost priorities this summer.

Some rumours claim that Chilwell will want to join Manchester City(if they are serious about signing him) since the 23-year-old would want to play under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

But we strongly believe Chelsea still have a better chance at signing him especially if both Emerson and Alonso are heading out.

At Etihad, Ben Chilwell will have to fight for his place against people like Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko. But if both the Blues full-back leave then Chilwell will be the undisputed first-choice left-back for Chelsea next season.
