Nicolas Pepe was denied a penalty during Arsenal’s 1-1 draw against Sheffield United at the Emirates in the Premier League and the Arsenal manager was obviously not too happy with the decision of the VAR.

VAR has been marred with controversies this season in England and the denying of the penalty was another incident when the men behind the decision got things all wrong.

Pepe fell over the outstretched leg of Jack O’Connell and to the naked eye, it looked a penalty despite Mike Dean failing to give one. But to everyone’s surprise, even the VAR chose not to award a penalty which could have been a game-changer given the Gunners could only manage a draw.

‘I think it’s very clear,’ the Arsenal manager said after the match via The Metro.

‘It was the same as with Chelsea, very clear. I don’t know how many tools do we need?

‘A lot of things happen and the challenge is getting bigger and bigger because we are getting a lot of bad surprises every day with some injuries and suspensions.

‘But we are up for it whatever we have we have we will try our best every time we get on that pitch and we did that today.’

This isn’t the first time that VAR has goofed up and surely it won’t be the last. So while Mikel Arteta can bash the referees all he wants but in reality, it was his players who failed to put the game to bed.

And the way Sheffield United have been performing this season, they always fancied their chances at 1-1 and in the end, they managed to salvage a much-deserved point.
