Liverpool are currently the team to beat in the English Premier League as Jurgen Klopp’s side have picked up a win in each one of their first six games.

And while everyone is going ga-ga over the Reds’ attacking line-up but the Liverpool defensive line should also deserve credit.

Each one of the defenders has lived up the expectations of the Anfield crowd with Virgil Van Dijk leading the line.

But at the start of the new year, the scenario was totally different for Van Dijk when he joined Liverpool from Southampton.

Virgil Van Dijk joined Liverpool at the start of the new year for a reported fee of £75 million and everyone was accusing the Reds of paying way too much for the centre-back.

But nine months down the line, Van Dijk is easily the best centre-back in England and the Arsenal fans will be in for another shock when they will find out that their club passed an option to sign the defender for just £12 million.

Before joining Southampton, Virgil Van Dijk was playing for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and it was during this time Arsenal had the opportunity to sign the defender – but chose to pass it.

Former Celtic FC assistant manager John Collins has revealed why the Gunners refuse to sign Virgil Van Dijk when the Dutch international was playing for the Hoops.

“Arsenal’s chief scout thought he was too nonchalant,” claimed Collins while talking to beIN Sport.

As the London outfit refused to sign Virgil Van Dijk, the centre-back finally moved to Southampton for £13 million. And the rest, as they say, is history.
