ATK Mohun Bagan might just have made one of the best signings in the history of the ISL by getting their hands on Finland international Joni Kauko.

The buzz first started when ATKMB teased this new signing by claiming that they are in pursuit of a player who is currently playing in the European Championship.

And ever since this piece of info was made public, the Indian football scene is abuzz with reports that the Kolkata-based side have agreed on a deal with Joni Kauko.

Who is Joni Kauko, Mohun Bagan’s latest signing?

According to all the latest updates, ATK Mohun Bagan has already sealed the transfer and the club are expected to make a formal announcement pretty soon.

Joni Kauko, 30 is a central midfielder by trade and he was born in Turku, Finland. The player started his youth career with Finnish side FC Inter, making his senior debut with them back in 2008.

Till last season he was playing for Danish second tier side Esbjerg fB but he will become a free agent at the end of this month.

Despite having a central role, Joni Kauko loved to venture forward and during the 2020-21 season, he played in 22 league matches for Esbjerg, scoring seven and assisting two goals.

Kauko has played in all three of Finland’s group games in the European Championship, coming on a sub in each one of them. In two out of the three games, the 30-year-old played as an attacking midfielder.
