Rangers FC have made ten signings so far during the summer under new boss Steven Gerrard but it seems that the Light Blues might have to end the transfer window on a low note.

While the manager has made sure to bring in players for every area of the pitch but as things stand, he is still two or three signings short of making a complete squad.

And one such area is the central defensive position.

Rangers have brought in the duo of Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson during the summer and both of them have had good starts at the club. But there is no denying that Gerrard needs to sign one more defender for that position who will act as a back-up.

And after searching for a number of weeks it finally seemed that the Gers had landed their required player in the form of Bournemouth youngster Jack Simpson.

Simpson made his league debut last season and was expected to be part of manager Eddie Howe’s plans during this campaign.

But on Saturday multiple reports had suggested that Howe had agreed to let the academy graduate move out on loan and he was headed to Ibrox.

Jack Simpson’s signing would have meant that Gerrard now had one less thing to worry about but within just 12 hours of the news surfacing, it seems that Bournemouth have taken a U-turn.

According to the latest reports, Eddie Howe has put Jack Simpson’s loan move on hold because of the injury to Nathan Ake.

The defender picked up a knock during Bournemouth’s friendly against Marseille on Saturday and it seems that the club are holding back Jack Simpson’s departure until they get a final report on Ake.

It is being believed that Ake’s injury is not too serious but Eddie Howe has chosen to hold onto Simpson until he gets a clearance from his medical team.

So as things stand, Rangers will have to wait it out for a couple of more days in order to see if Bournemouth release Jack Simpson.
