Rangers FC welcomed NK Osijek at Ibrox this past Thursday during their second qualifying round of the Europa League and the Gers eventually came out as 2-1 aggregate winners in the tie.

Thursday’s encounter ended in a 1-1 draw and it seems that the match is going to haunt the Rangers fans for some time now.

After the match ended, a brawl had broken out near the Ibrox Stadium and the police had later confirmed that two Croatian men were stabbed during the large-scale disturbance.

Police said two Croatian men, aged 24 and 40, had received stab injuries but were released on Friday after treatment.

Area commander Chief Inspector Alan Bowater said: “Supporters of both sides should be able to attend a football match without getting caught up in violence and disorder.

“Also, innocent members of the public should not have to be faced with the threat of encountering it.

“The individuals involved must be tracked down and held to account and Police Scotland will use every resource at its disposal to put a stop to this reckless behaviour.

“I would like to reassure members of the public that we take their safety extremely seriously and sufficient resources will be deployed at future games to tackle anti-social behaviour and violence.”

And now reports are claiming that the Light Blues could receive disciplinary action from UEFA.

The governing body of football in Europe is currently waiting for a report from the delegates of the match and if Rangers are found guilty then they could receive sanctions from UEFA.

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said: “As a club, we don’t condone that type of behaviour. We don’t want to see scenes like that.

“We want everyone to come away talking about the football and the positive result we got.

“We just hope that no one has been hurt, that’s all we ask for.”

After overcoming the Osijek test Rangers will now take on Maribor next Thursday in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.
