Sir Kenny Dalglish has slammed the idea of calling the current Premier League season null and void claiming that teams like Celtic and Liverpool will be the most affected.

Recently West Ham United chief Karren Brady had claimed that the current season should be declared null and void since the fixture congestion will be too much to handle for all the clubs even if the leagues did start immediately after the suspensions.

But now Dalglish has come out to claim that if this step is actually considered them all the table toppers across the major English leagues will be heart-broken since all their hard work would have amounted to nothing.

“What must definitely not happen is for the 2019-20 campaign to be declared null and void,” he wrote in the Sunday Post, as quoted.

“That would not be fair, and any person with football at heart would admit that would be totally out of order.

“In Scotland, would it be fair to say to the Premiership leaders, Celtic, that all of their efforts in the past nine months over 30 games count for nothing?

“The same would apply to Dundee United in the Championship.

“Would any person without an agenda really think it would be the most-sensible outcome to deny Liverpool their chance of winning the title after doing fantastically well in their 29 league games so far to build up a 25-point lead over Manchester City with nine games remaining?

“Of course not. Nobody can allow the hard work to count for nothing. So let’s do away with any of this talk, and try to use our time and energy wisely.

“I’ve been in football for more than 50 years and I know what goes into it. The season must be completed.”

Can the Premier League be actually completed?

Surely cancelling the Premier League or for that matter, any league in Europe will be the last resort that their respective governing bodies will be thinking about.

But in case this COVID-19 outbreak starts slowing down immediately it will be very tough for all the leagues to reschedule the fixtures, more so since the cups competitions and the European tournaments have also been suspended.

Also, the EURO 2020 is scheduled to be held in the summer and if the UEFA decides not to shift the tournament to the next summer then it will be almost impossible for the likes of the Premier League and the EFL to complete all their remaining matches.

So in this case, if the Premier League is declared null and void then it will be a heartbreak for Liverpool since this would have been their EPL trophy.

But for the SPFL things might be a bit easier since they could very easily get rid of the split formation in which case all the teams will only have to play 33 games each – out of which most clubs have already played 30.

And this would mean Celtic are currently under no real pressure but surely, Rangers FC will feel a bit hard done by, if the split format is not brought into effect.
