Brendan Rodgers left Celtic in February in order to take charge of Leicester City in the Premier League.

And this was not met with a great deal of positivity from the Bhoys fans with most of them left wondering why Rodgers would vacate them during the middle of the season. Especially when he had the chance of winning multiple trophies at the end of the campaign.

But the Hoops management wasted no time and appointed Neil Lennon as their interim manager until the summer.

Lennon has done exceptionally well but if rumours are to be believed then Celtic will not hold onto him on a permanent basis.

And a couple of weeks ago it was reported that the Glasgow outfit had made contact with former Man United manager Jose Mourinho.

This came as a shock for many people but this rumour was quickly rubbished by the club.

Now though, Chris Sutton has come out to claim that Celtic did indeed approach Jose Mourinho to become their next manager.

“It’s so tough to stand here and say who will be the next Celtic manager because it is a big job, there’s going to be a lot of managers in for it”, he said on BT Sport Facebook.

“Mourinho was heavily linked and I am led to believe there was something in that in terms of there being an offer.

“[But] why would he take the Celtic job? I just don’t get it.

“I don’t know [the details] but there was an offer.”

Jose Mourinho was sacked by Manchester United last year and since then the Portuguese has been without a job.

Right now he is working for a broadcasting channel as a pundit for the Champions League but the former United boss has made it clear that he intends to return back to management during the summer.
