Craig Gordon has been offered a new deal at Celtic FC but the player has publicly announced that he is not happy with the terms of the new contract and could join a new club this summer.

He told SunSport: “With Celtic, the ball is in their court. They’ve made an offer but they know they’ll need to come back with something better. My contract has lapsed and I’m free to talk to anybody. That’s what I intend to do over the next few weeks.

“St Mirren have made me a good offer and other clubs have also been in touch. As things stand I haven’t closed the door on anybody.”

As per reports, the Bhoys are offering significantly reduced wages to the 37-year-old keeper which is the primary reason why he’s not ready to put pen on paper. And according to pundit Kris Boyd, Celtic FC are falling in the pit they have themselves dug.

“He could have left the club and signed a huge, mega-money contract with Chelsea just a few years ago,” Boyd told Sunsport.

“But Craig chose to stay and let his heart rule his head. Yet here he is, out of contract and almost out on his ear. After six unbelievably successful years he’s been offered a new deal on vastly reduced wages.

“From experience, I’d say it’s the type of offer Celtic know he’s going to turn down. Neil Lennon doesn’t seem to rate him, does he? Not really.

“Now Lenny wants Forster back to be his No 1 for next season’s ten-in-a-row campaign — but those talks could last for weeks yet and even then it’s far from certain they’ll get things over the line.

“In the meantime, Celtic need to make it look like they’re doing everything in their power to keep Craig by offering a new contract. So when he rejects it he’s the one painted as the villain.

“I’ve seen it before and I’ll see it again. What I will say is Celtic should be careful what they wish for.”

Will Craig Gordon remain at Celtic FC?

What Boyd has said is very true since Football Insider are claiming that Celtic FC are now fretting they will not be able to resign Fraser Forster which is why they are willing to offer a new and improved deal to Gordon in the coming weeks.

Neil Lennon might have had a strategy in place which is why the club were not too worried about Craig Gordon leaving in the summer. But clearly everything’s fallen apart for the Glasgow side and they are now in such a precarious situation that they could lose out on both Gordon as well as Fraser Forster.

The shot-stopper as been with Celtic FC since 2014 but in the 2019-20 season, Gordon has not been able to play in even a single Premiership game for the Parkhead outfit.
