Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers FC brought in Steven Gerrard as their new boss in order to revive the club’s faith after a disastrous couple of seasons. And it seems that the former Liverpool man has done just that – both on as well as off the pitch.

As soon as Gerrard arrived at Ibrox he took it upon himself to overhaul the whole system right from the coaching staff up to the first team squad.

The boss spent a huge amount of money in the transfer market in order to bring in 15 new players during the transfer window and the new look squad is slowly paying dividend.

The Gers might have picked up only a single win in the Premiership right now but Gerrard has been successful in bringing back European football to Ibrox by qualifying for the Europa League.

And now recent reports have revealed that the Gers manager has hugely impacted the season’s first Old Firm Derby – despite Rangers coming out as 1-0 losers.

According to the latest updates, the Celtic vs Rangers game saw a huge jump in viewership as many tuned in to watch Steven Gerrard take charge of his first derby as manager.

Last December this very same fixture saw a tv viewership of 275,000 but this season’s first Old Firm Derby had more than double that audience.

A total number of 552,000 people tuned in to watch the Celtic vs Rangers game on the two Sky channels that it was being broadcasted in.

According to the latest BARB figures, 268,000 viewed the game on Sky Sports Football, which was the most-watched programme on the channel that week.

And 284,000 people watched the Sky Sports main event.

Celtic might have walked away from that game with the three points but they surely need to thank Steven Gerrard and his popularity which has helped revive the fate of the derby.
