Celtic FC are planning to launch a bid for Everton midfielder James McCarthy – as per reports.

McCarthy joined Everton from Wigan Athletic in 2013 for a transfer fee of £6.75 million but this season the player has failed to feature in the first XI.

James McCarthy suffered a Tibia and Fibula Fracture in January of 201 and since then the player has been spending time on the sidelines for Everton.

He is yet to feature in a single game for the Toffees this season and his only professional appearance so far has been one full game in the Premier League 2.

It is now being reported that James McCarthy has made up his mind to leave Goodison Park in order to get more game time.

And Celtic FC are said to be the frontrunners in signing up the central midfielder.

The Hoops are willing to take the 28-year-old on a six-month loan spell until the end of the season but there is one major stumbling block to the deal.

James McCarthy currently earns £50,000-a-week in the form of wages at Everton and Celtic are not too keen to pay such huge wages to the midfielder.

And this is where Premier League side West Ham United come in.

Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly eyeing a move for James McCarthy and the London outfit will be more than willing to pay the midfielder’s wages.

But joining West Ham will not be a sensible move for McCarthy since his priority right now should be to get an ample amount of game time under his belt until the end of the season.

If James McCarthy joins Celtic then he will see a substantial amount of first-team action. But if he chooses the Hammers over the Hoops then he could once again be rotting on the bench – given West Ham have already got a number of players in the midfield area.
