Rangers are said to sign Joe Aribo from Charlton Athletic after successfully fending off interest from Celtic.

Aribo has come up through the ranks at Charlton Athletic and the League One side were desperate to hold onto him for one more season.

But now reports are claiming that the 22-year-old is on his way to Rangers and he would be having a medical imminently(at the time of writing this article).

While most experts have labelled this transfer as a good business but Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer is certainly not pleased that the midfielder has chosen to move to Scotland instead of joining an English side.

Speaking to The South London Press, Bowyer said: “I worked so hard to get him to this situation he is in now, it is about progression for him.

“So it’s a shame if he gets pushed to somewhere where it is not going to benefit him in his football career. If he goes to Rangers that is not the right place for him to go for his football career.

“You have got Rangers and Celtic who are massive clubs, I get that. And I get that Steven Gerrard was a great player, so that’s an attraction. Those two things are the attraction – but not everything else.

“It doesn’t make sense on the football side. When people from England go and play for Celtic and Rangers it is at the end of their careers.

“That’s because it is very rare you get a move from Rangers to the Premier League, and I don’t mean any disrespect by that.”

The Charlton Athletic boss is certainly right about the fact that joining Rangers will make it really tough for Aribo to move back to the Premier League.

But the midfielder will get to develop under someone like Steven Gerrard who is bound to manage an EPL club in the near future.

And if the former Charlton Athletic man can get in the good books of the Rangers boss then it would be a surprise if Steve G takes the midfielder along with him to his new club.
