Chelsea have been slapped with a transfer ban with the final decision still pending and amongst this, the club are fighting hard to keep Eden Hazard at the club.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has made Eden Hazard his top transfer priority during the summer transfer window and many believe the Belgium international has his heart set on a move to Spain at the end of the season.

Hazard has claimed that he wishes to play in the Champions League with Chelsea which some believe is an indication that if the Blues cannot get back to the top tier of European football then the winger will try and force a move out of Stamford Bridge.

And now speaking about the whole Eden Hazard debacle, Alan Shearer has claimed that Chelsea are better off keeping hold of the winger next season even if that means losing him for free in 2020.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Shearer said: “I am more worried about what next year holds for the Blues, with a possible transfer ban and because Eden Hazard’s future is so uncertain.

“If Fifa upholds its decision to stop Chelsea signing players in the next two windows, then the Blues have a big decision to make about Eden Hazard, who is entering the final year of his contract.

“Real Madrid will pay big money to sign him, but will there be more value for Chelsea in keeping him for another campaign even if he can walk away for nothing at the end of it?

“It would be a gamble to keep him, but it also a risk to let Hazard leave if they are not allowed to sign a replacement – because, without him, they are an extremely ordinary team.”

Eden Hazard has been pursued by Real Madrid for a couple of seasons now but when Zidane left the club everyone believed the La Liga side would cool their interest.

But now that the former manager has returned at the helm so has his interest in signing Eden Hazard.

Chelsea need to get back into the Champions League next season, not only to hold onto Eden Hazard but also to attract big names during the transfer window – in case their transfer embargo is suspended or delayed.
