Chelsea have joined the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid in the race to sign David Alaba on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, as per Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

Solhekol told Sky Sports: “On the centre-back situation at Chelsea, one player l would be watching closely is David Alaba. He will be leaving Bayern Munich in the summer. Lots of clubs want him on a free transfer.

“Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool have all been mentioned but Chelsea are definitely in the mix. Some of the agents who were involved in bringing manager Thomas Tuchel to Stamford Bridge are also involved with Alaba.

“It would be a no-brainer for Chelsea to sign him, although reporters in Spain are convinced he is going to Real Madrid, and PSG have entered the race.”

Will David Alaba choose a move to Chelsea?

The 28-year-old’s current deal expires in the summer making him one of the most valued free agents in the market at the end of the season. And with so many issues in defence, it’s clear to see why Thomas Tuchel is keen to land the Austrian international.

But right now, Real Madrid are said to be the favourites to sign David Alaba in the summer as they look for a long-term replacement to Sergio Ramos.

Liverpool are also looking to add a steady partner to Van Dijk for the 2021-22 season and they are expected to try and convince the Bayern man to join them in the summer.

Chelsea do have the money to offer David Alaba a lucrative salary meaning Real Madrid are not going to run a one-horse race in this transfer race any longer.

Liverpool though might not have that kind of luxury given they are not known to be a lavish club. This though might change if Jurgen Klopp is forced to part ways with someone like Mo Salah or Sadio Mane at the end of this season.

David Alaba can surely be the long-term partner to Thiago Silva next season in the Premier League but if they fail to remain in the Champions League, we don’t see the Blues edging past the likes of Liverpool or Real Madrid in this transfer battle.
