Chelsea appointed Maurizio Sarri as their new boss this summer and upon arriving the Italian has chosen to make a number of significant changes to the first team squad.

The former Napoli manager brought in Jorginho and Matteo Kovacic during the transfer window both of whom are now a regular feature for the club.

The Blues have also handed new contracts to the likes of N’Golo Kante and Ceaser Azpilicueta.

And now with the winter transfer window coming up, reports have it that the Chelsea boss is planning to offload a few dead-woods from his squad.

The first player who will leave the club is midfielder Danny Drinkwater who is yet to play a Premier League game this season.

But now the manager has claimed that he wants two of his players to stay at the club despite rumours suggesting otherwise.

Sarri wants the senior duo of David Luiz and Cesc Fabregas to stay at Stamford Bridge and wants them to sign new deals as soon as possible.

Talking about giving new deals to Luiz and Cesc Fabregas, the Chelsea manager said“Si [Yes]. I spoke with the club one month ago about this. I know very well that it’s not easy, but I think that we can do a new deal for both.

“Because they are very important players for us. Because, on the other hand, it’s very difficult to find a centre-back for this level, and it’s very difficult to find a central midfielder technically like Fabregas.

“And so I think they have to stay with us.

“The deal is very difficult for this reason [both being over 30], I think. Because the club wants a short contract, and the players want a long contract. So it’s difficult for this reason. But I think, at the end, we can find a solution.

“I think that David and Cesc are leaders. And so I think it’s very important for me, for the staff, and also for their team-mates that they stay with us. I know the difficulties of the new deal, as I said before.

“The problem is only one year, two years or three/four years for the new contract. But I think the club will be able to find the right solution.”

David Luiz has featured prominently under Maurizio Sarri this season but the shock comes in regards to Cesc Fabregas who has been struggling for game time this season.

Many believed the Spaniard will move out of the club by the end of the season but now the Chelsea boss has made it clear that he wants the midfielder to stay.
