Not many people would have put their bets on Chelsea being a title contender this season but Maurizio Sarri has done a brilliant job with his new-look team.

The former Napoli man took charge of the club quite late in the summer and managed to make only a few signings before the new season kicked off.

But it seems that each of his signings has been a masterstroke.

The Blues are currently the only team in Europe’s top five leagues who are yet to lose a game but according to former Chelsea man Hasselbaink, the Stamford Bridge outfit still needs one more signing in order to close that gap with league leaders Manchester City.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hasselbaink said: “I think every club that is going to challenge for the Premier League needs three strikers.

“For me, they [Chelsea] still have a gap to close on Man City, but they are improving and if they can keep on improving they can hopefully catch them.

Chelsea news: Olivier Giroud is one of the two strikers for Chelsea

“[Sarri] has changed the way they play totally. They now play more in the defensive third of the opposition. They have the ball 60 or 70 per cent of the time – that was totally different last year.

“You see smiles on the players’ faces again and they’re playing attractive, attacking football.”

The Blues currently have Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud as their front man but with Morata still, to find his feet, Maurizio Sarri might be planning to bring in a new striker during the January transfer window.

The Stamford Bridge outfit have scored a flurry of goals during the current season but most only five of them have come from the two strikers – with Olivier Giroud failing to score even a single time.

Up until now, Sarri has been rotating Giroud and Morata upfront but with the games now coming thick and fast, the Blues manager will most certainly need a new striker.

Manchester City, on the other hand, have managed to open up a slight gap at the top of the table and Pep Guardiola side seems to be scoring goals for fun.
