Chelsea youngster Reece James has really made a positive mark in the first-team squad this season and it looks like the player is about to be rewarded.
If the latest rumours are to be believed then the Blues academy graduate is about to get a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
This season, Reece James has already featured in 19 games for Chelsea under Frank Lampard and with each passing with the player’s importance seems to be growing.
A report in Football Insider states: “Chelsea are in advanced talks with defender Reece James over a new deal, Football Insider can reveal.
“The Premier League giants are working on tying the right-back, 20, to a long-term contract to replace his current agreement.
“A Chelsea source has told Football Insider that discussions over a new five-year deal are progressing very well and the club are confident James will put pen to paper imminently following a breakthrough.”
The player’s current deal with the club expires in the summer of 2022 but given the performances that Reece James has put in this season, Chelsea want to waste no time in binding him down with a new deal.
As per reports, the new contract will also give the player a significant pay rise with many experts believing that Frank Lampard has already started moulding the 20-year-old as the long-term replacement to Azpilicueta who is out of contract at the club in 2022.
