Chelsea will be able to sign new players during the January transfer window and according to Alan Shearer, they should patch up two key areas.

The Blues let go of Eden Hazard but could not bring in an apt replacement and as far as the defensive line is concerned – it’s in major shambles.

Lampard let go of David Luiz during the summer and to his back luck, Antonio Rudiger has been out for most of the season due to various injuries.

So according to Alan Shearer, the Chelsea manager should make it a priority to bring in a new forward and a new centre-back as soon as the January transfer window opens.

“They haven’t even replaced the goals from [Eden] Hazard and also in the centre-half position,” Shearer said on Match of the Day[as reported].

“I know they have a couple of young lads – Fikayo Tomori – but they just lack something in that position.”

And even Frank Lampard has made it clear that he wishes to bring in a replacement for Eden Hazard so that his team can create more chances going forward.

“I will look at all areas of the team but I think it was quite clear in the summer that you lose Eden Hazard, who was a huge part of scoring or creating our goals last season and the season before that,” Chelsea’s manager said.

“I think we’ve found ways as a team where we can still be competitive. We’ve shown that in the league and now the Champions League.

“But if we’re looking at if we can get even better, can we get better in forward areas to help the idea of being more clinical, then I think we’ll always look at that.

“We’re just not converting enough. Some of that is to keep working and I’m not here to criticise anybody because we’ve just qualified from a really tough group to get through to the next stage of the Champions League.

“But we have standards here and I know how much the players also want to be successful. It’s very clear, so we’ll keep working towards it.”

As far as the defence is concerned, the pairing of Tomori and Kurt Zouma have done more than a decent job but neither of them is good enough to partner Rudiger in the long run. So it’s a no-brainer that Lampard will also be in the hunt for a central defender.
