Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of rape by Kathryn Mayorga back in 2009 while they were in Las Vegas and immediately this news has taken centre stage.

Mayorga thanked the MeToo movement for helping her come out and speak about the whole incident publicly even though the forward has kept denying the claims.

While Ronaldo has maintained he did nothing wrong but the Juventus star’s image has already taken a serious battering.

He has been left out of the Portugal squad for the upcoming games vs Poland and Scotland and now brands like Nike and EA have also come out to release their statements regarding the rape allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo.

While both the brands have not taken any drastic steps but have made it clear that they are monitoring the situation closely.

In a statement, Nike said: “We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation.”

EA Sports too had a similar tone as they released a statement which read:

“We have seen the concerning report that details allegations against Cristiano Ronaldo.

“We are closely monitoring the situation, as we expect cover athletes and ambassadors to conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with EA’s values.”

Oddly enough Cristiano Ronaldo’s current club Juventus have chosen to stand by their star player and have released a number of tweets to show support towards the forward.

This though has not gone down too well with the fans who have come out to criticize the Italian giants.

Cristiano Ronaldo too released a tweet in which he has denied all the allegations saying: “I firmly deny the accusations being issued against me. Rape is an abominable crime that goes against everything that I am and believe in. Keen as I may be to clear my name, I refuse to feed the media spectacle created by people seeking to promote themselves at my expense.”
