Danny Welbeck has been on the sidelines ever since he picked up a nasty injury last year.

The England international broke his ankle while playing in the Europa League last November and the forward is not expected to make a comeback to the first XI this season.

Danny Welbeck joined from Man United in 2014 and his current deal expires in the summer and he is yet to agree on terms of a new contract.

Many experts have claimed that Emery will not offer Welbeck a new deal given he already has the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette at his disposal.

But now the Arsenal boss has hinted that a new deal could very well be tabled in front of Danny Welbeck pretty soon.

“He’s progressing very well,” he said(as per Four Four Two).

“He is working and starting to touch the ball and to work on the pitch. His progress with such a big injury is going very well.

“It’s difficult for him to play matches this season but he is progressing very well and maybe the doctor will tell us he can come train with us in the last weeks of this season.

“After, his individual thing is to speak with the club [about his future].”

“Every [Premier League] team needs English players,

“Danny has his injury now. He was going with the national team and we were happy for him and the national team.

“[Promising English players] are now in the under-18s, under-19s, under-20s and under-21s teams. We have a lot of players with the possibility to grow up with us and be part of our future, and also with the national team.”

If Danny Welbeck does decide to stay at Arsenal next season, then surely he will have to take a pay cut and will also be devoid of game time.

But Emery would surely want to keep him at the club as a backup striker instead of selling him off and then spending money to bring in a replacement.
