Dayot Upamecano & Ibrahima Konate
v.li.: Ibrahima Konate (RB Leipzig, 6), Reinhold Yabo (Salzburg, 7), Dayot Upamecano (RB Leipzig, 5); Aktion, action

After wrapping up the signing of Donny van de Beek, Manchester United are now shifting their focus to RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

Mark Ogden writes for ESPN: “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is targeting RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano to bolster his defensive options at Manchester United, sources have told ESPN, after sealing a deal to make Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek his first major signing this summer.

“Sources have told ESPN that Solskjaer is now prioritising the addition of a top-quality centre-half to play alongside captain Harry Maguire and Upamecano is the top target.”

Dayot Upamecano has also been eyed by Premier League rivals Arsenal but as per the latest reports, it’s Manchester United who are the favourites to land the centre-back

The 21-year-old’s release clause currently stands at €50 million which is something that should not be an issue for the OT outfit, especially if Roma can up their bid for Chris Smalling.

Roma’s earlier bid for Smalling was in the region of €16 million but Man United want about €20 million for the England international and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Serie A side are about to make another offer.

He wrote: “Manchester United expect to receive a new bid soon from AS Roma to sell Chris Smalling on a permanent deal. Man Utd board are also working to sign a new CB if a ‘good opportunity’ will be on the market on next weeks.”

If this deal goes through then Man United should not have any major issues in paying the release clause for Dayot Upamecano in the coming weeks.
