Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp chose Van Dijk and Joe Gomez as his first choice centre-back fair at the start of last season and for a couple of months, everything was going pretty smoothly.

Joe Gomez picked up an injury during the middle of the campaign which meant that Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren had to take turns in partnering Van Dijk in defence for the next of the season.

But as the season rolled along, it was Matip who came up as the better central defender which means that Dejan Lovren was only used during the unimportant matches.

Lovren made only 13 appearances in the Premier League last campaign and now it looks like Liverpool are planning to offload him during the summer.

Joe Gomez returned back to full fitness during the end of the last season which means Dejan Lovren has fallen further down the pecking order – so much so that Klopp right now can do perfectly without him.

AC Milan are set to bring in Frederic Massar as their new sporting director and reports claim Massar wants to bring in Lovren to the San Siro this summer.

And Liverpool too would be more than happy to release the 29-year-old if Milan can meet their transfer demand of £25 million.

Dejan Lovren had clearly struggled for game time last season which is why the player is also not looking to hang around Anfield beyond the summer.

Having said that though, there has been no progress whatsoever in this transfer.

As per the latest reports, AC Milan have not made any official contact with Liverpool over the transfer of Dejan Lovren. And some sources claim that they have not held any meeting with the player’s representatives either.

Jurgen Klopp has sorted out his defensive backline for the upcoming season and if they can now manage to sell off Lovren for the demanded transfer price then it would surely be deemed good business from the manager.
