Manchester City might be ruling in the English Premier League but winning the Champions League still remains their ultimate goal.
City have failed to even reach the final of the prestigious competition and now if UEFA have their way, they might not be playing in the Champions League next season.
Last year, Der Spiegel had revealed that City hid funding from their owners under the guise of sponsorship money from Middle East-based companies and in doing so they broke a number of financial rules.
Since then UEFA have launched an investigation and want to ban Manchester City from the Champions League.
While Man City have claimed that the process was biased but now reports have claimed that the ban could be imposed ‘within weeks’ despite the EPL champions appealing to the CAS.
CalcioMercato reported: “City claim that that UEFA are carrying out a biased and improper investigation and appealed to the CAS to have UEFA’s investigation ruled out.
“However, CAS have told The Sun that City’s claim will have no impact on UEFA’s ongoing investigation and, therefore, the club could still face a ban from the UEFA Champions League.
“A spokeswoman from the CAS said that “There is no stay on Uefa while the CAS proceedings are in progress.”
“Manchester City must now await the decisions of both UEFA and the CAS as they eagerly wait to find out whether or not the proposed ban or sanction will be carried out.”
If Man City do receive a Champions League ban then it will be great news for Arsenal.
The Gunners failed to finish within the top-four of the Champions League table and were also beaten by Chelsea in the Europa League final.
This means that once again, the North London club will be playing in the second-tier of Europe next season.
But all that could change if Man City’s Champions League ban is upheld.
If the ban is upheld then one more spot will open up in for the UCL group stage next season and it will be Arsenal who will be automatically promoted from the Europa League since they finish fifth in the Premier League.
While it is still unsure if the ban will be imposed this season or not but we can assure you that every Arsenal fan would be praying that Pep Guardiola’s side receives the full rage of the UEFA’s rage.
