Manchester United have signed midfielder Donny van de Beek from Ajax for a reported transfer fee of €40m + €5m in the form of add ons.

Fabrizio Romano wrote on Twitter: “Paperworks signed between Ajax and Manchester United. Time for medicals. Contract to be signed on next hours until June 2025.

“Donny Van de Beek to Man Utd, here we go confirmed for the ‘homegrown’ talent who’ll leave Ajax”

And while the Man United fans have been buzzing about the arrival of the box-to-box midfielder but Robin Van Persie has sent out a blunt warning to Donny van de Beek before he arrives at Old Trafford.

“Donny van de Beek is 23 years old and that is a nice age to make a transfer to the Premier League,” Van Persie told De Telegraaf, via Sport Bible.

“I was a bit younger when I went to Arsenal, and in the locker room, I was considered a player for the future. Winning the UEFA Cup with Feyenoord meant nothing. The Premier League is a completely different world.

“Donny will be brought in as a major purchase from Manchester United, but he will discover that those other 22 players have also been brought in as a ‘major purchase’. One had an even bigger transfer than the other.

“It means that he has to stand there right away and he has to mentally adjust to that. Because Manchester United is in every way a beast of a club.”

Donny van de Beek is indeed a fine signing for Manchester United but he will have to fight the likes of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes for a place in the starting line-up next season.

Van de Beek should get a couple of starts right at the start of the season owing to his highlight transfer but if he cannot adjust to life quickly enough then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will not hesitate one bit before dropping him to the bench.
