Napoli take on Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Europa League next week and the Serie A outfit are currently sweating over the fitness of Dries Mertens.

Dries Mertens has been in top form this season for Napoli as the centre forward has already netted 13 goals and provided 11 assists in just 37 games for Napoli.

The centre-forward started in Napoli’s 4-1 win over Roma and he also scored a goal in the 49th minute.

But shortly after that the 31-year-old had to be taken off and Adam Ounas came on in his place.

And now reports are suggesting that Dries Mertens could be an absentee for the first leg of the Europa League clash vs Arsenal next week.

Napoli have since released an official statement in which they have claimed that Dries Mertens has been diagnosed with a light traumatic injury at his fibula.

The club have also confirmed that the forward has undergone treatments but major publications in Italy are claiming that the signs are not looking good.

If Dries Mertens does eventually miss the first leg at the Emirates then it will be a huge blow for Carlo Ancelotti who is already having doubts over the fitness of Lorenzo Insigne.

Another player who could be out injured is Elseid Hysaj who just like Dries Mertens had to be taken off with an injury during the win vs Roma.

With so many key players possibly missing from action, Arsenal manager Unai Emery could very well name an ultra-attacking side at the Emirates next week in the hopes of killing the tie in the first-leg itself.
