Rangers had made a number of poor signing before Steven Gerrard took charge of the team and Eduardo Herrera happened to be one of them.

Eduardo Herrera was bought in the summer of 2017 from UNAM by then manager Pedro Caixinha, but the Mexican turned out to be a massive flop at Ibrox.

During the 2017-18 season, he managed to net only a single goal in 19 Premiership appearances so Steven Gerrard wasted no time in sending him out on loan last season.

For the first half of the 18-19 season, Eduardo Herrera was out on loan to Santos Laguna and then went on to spent the second half at Club Necaxa which is where he will staying for the upcoming campaign.

Rangers have confirmed that Eduardo Herrera will spend another six months out on loan to Club Necaxa.

The club released an official statement which read:

“RANGERS can today confirm that Eduardo Herrera has extended his loan to Club Necaxa for a further six months.

“The striker has been with the Liga MX side since the start of 2019, after previously being loaned to Santos Laguna, and will begin the 2019/20 season there.

“He scored five goals in 16 appearances in the second half of last season for Necaxa.”

And after this loan move, many people have started wondering as to why Steven Gerrard is not willing to offload Eduardo Herrera permanently this summer instead of sending him out on loan.

Well, the reason might lie with Club Necaxa.

Apart from Nexaxa, no other club really wants to sign the centre-forward which is why Steven Gerrard has no other option but to hold onto him.

Some rumours have also suggested that the Gers did try and sell him to Necaxa this summer but the Mexican club are not really interested in paying €800,000(as per TransferMarkt) as a transfer fee.

Also, Rangers bought in for a fee of £1.5 million so Gerrard will hopefully be ready to suffer such a financial blow by selling off Eduardo Herrera immediately.\
