FIFA has made some monumental alterations to their current rules and regulations in order to ensure that the 2019-20 season is not disrupted and the leagues and cup competitions across the globe can be finished properly.
In their first major step, FIFA has announced that they are willing to move the summer transfer window so that clubs and leagues can adjust during such a time of crisis.
The statement from FIFA read: “With regard to transfer windows, again, it is necessary to adjust the normal regulatory position to the new factual circumstances.
“Accordingly, FIFA will be flexible and will allow the relevant transfer windows to be moved so they fall between the end of the old season and the start of the new season.
“At the same time, FIFA will try to ensure, where possible, an overall level of coordination and will also bear in mind the need to protect the regularity, integrity and proper functioning of competitions, so that the sporting results of any competition are not unfairly disrupted.”
The other major change that the governing body of football has decided to make is to the player contracts since most contract then to expire on June 30 and right now there are multiple reasons to believe that a number of leagues might carry on beyond this date.
Here’s what FIFA had to say about this: “Expiring player contracts usually end when the season ends, with a termination date that coincides with the end of the season. With the current suspension of play in most countries, it is now obvious that the current season will not end when people thought it would.
“Therefore, it is proposed that contracts be extended until such time that the season does actually end. This should be in line with the original intention of the parties when the contract was signed and should also preserve sporting integrity and stability.
“A similar principle applies to contracts due to begin when the new season starts, meaning the entry into force of such contracts is delayed until the next season actually does start.”
These two decisions will give a massive boost to almost all the footballing tournaments across the globe but especially to the European countries where the pandemic been creating massive problems.
But now with the green light from the top authorities, the likes of UEFA and it’s associates can start building a cohesive plan to wrap up the 2019-20 season.
