Frank Lampard could not sign any new players during the summer transfer window due to the transfer embargo but according to Ian Wright, the Chelsea boss should get himself a new attacker this month.

The Blues lost yet another Premier League game this weekend losing 1-0 to Newcastle United and according to Wright, Frank Lampard needs a player who has the ability to carve open defences.

The pundit said via The Express: “They were continuously going into Newcastle’s strengths – they were going inside. I thought they could have gone a little bit wider.

“But what you see which is most evident is that special player who can open a team up. They don’t have that anymore.”

And when Frank Lampard was asked about signing a new forward this month, here’s what he said.

“We’ll see,” he said when asked about signing a new attacker.

“I think you can address it on the training ground with the players. But we can’t practice finishing, we can’t practice entering the final third more than what we do.

“When we are on the pitch and in games we have to be more clinical, the players know that.

“I am very pleased with the players we have got.

“We have a lot of talent in this team, but sticking the ball in the back of the net is a huge thing and if we want to do it as a club going forward, this season and next season going forward and we are controlling games as we are, then we have to score goals.”

Chelsea let Eden Hazard leave for Real Madrid and Frank Lampard hasn’t been able to bring in a player of that calibre as of yet. They did manage to secure the signing of Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund last January but the American is yet to stamp his authority in the Premier League and it’s safe to say that he’s had more misses than hits.
