Manchester United signed midfielder Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk during the summer for £52million.

But the Brazilian has endured a tough time during his first campaign in the Premier League.

Under Jose Mourinho, Fred hardly got any game time but everyone thought the scenario would change after the arrival of Ole Gunner Solskjaer.

But the Norwegian has obviously preferred the likes of Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera in midfield meaning Fred is currently not even close to a first team call-up.

And speaking about the midfielder’s prospect of playing in the first XI, the manager said:

“I think the question is wrong because I don’t think it’s my challenge to incorporate players,

“It’s about the players being ready when they get a chance and Fred, he’s been working hard in training, he’s a good lad.

”We know there’s a very, very good player there with Fred, so hopefully he’ll adjust to the English game because there’s no doubting of his talent.

”It’s always difficult to come here. One, it’s Man United, you’re expected to perform straight away. Two, it’s an English league that he’s not used to, but he’s a Brazilian international.

”There are loads of players that have come in and found the first few months difficult.

“Two of the best players I played with who struggled the most were Diego Forlan and Juan Sebastian Veron, you know those two fantastic players, but when they settled, they performed. So I don’t think he needs to worry too much. He’ll get chances.”

But now reports are suggesting that Solskjaer has held a private meeting with Fred and the caretaker boss has assured the midfielder that he will play a role in the first team during the second half of the season.

Jose Mourinho had claimed that Fred would start playing once he sorted out the defence but now under Solskjaer, United have also improved defensively meaning that constant run of games is just around the corner for the out-of-favour midfielder.
