Rangers FC signed Borna Barisic during the summer transfer window from NK Osijek.

And the left-back was a key figure in Steven Gerrard’s first XI during the first half of the season.

But a number of injuries towards the end of 201 have really hampered the growth of the defender and Borna Barisic is now struggling for game time.

This season Borna Barisic has made 17 appearances for the Gers but out of that only ten have come in the Premiership.

And speaking this week, the left-back has claimed that he was a bit misinformed about the Scottish Premiership.

When Rangers showed interest in signing Borna Barisic during the summer, the 26-year-old spoke to Nikica Jelavic and Niko Kranjcar about life in the Premiership and the duo gave advice which wasn’t exactly appropriate.

He said: “We are in a title fight after we beat Celtic 1-0 and although we are six points behind, we are not giving up.

“The team has been strengthened and my teammates say you can’t even compare our side this year from last year.

“We have good players, but to win the league will take time because the league is stronger than it used to be.

“I spoke to Nikica Jelavic and Niko Kranjcar who played here and they said there is only Rangers and Celtic in the league. But now there are other teams who are close to us.”

But Borna Barisic has also revealed that his one-on-one sessions with Steven Gerrard have helped him grow massively as a player.

“When I see a name like Steven Gerrard and realise he’s my manager and I can talk to him every day, it means a lot,” Borna Barisic added.

“He has had a great influence on me. I like to listen to him and he’s an incredibly confident man.

“He’s very knowledgeable too as a coach. I’ve spoken to him a lot about the defensive aspect of my game.

“The manager is very fond of communicating with his players. He calls players into his office and has one-on-one meetings. I have learned so much from him.

“Just talking to him about his experiences in football has been incredible”
