Rangers FC new manager Steven Gerrard was brought in earlier on this summer in order to rebuild the Gers squad the former Liverpool manager seems to be right on track.

So far, Gerrard has made nine signings during the summer transfer window but now it seems that the manager still needs to bring in one more player in order to make his first team complete.

Rangers faced FC Shkupi over two legs during the first round of qualifiers of the Europa League and even though the Light Blues managed to progress but both the games revealed a gaping hole in the Rangers line-up – their inability to score goals.

Rangers currently have Alfredo Morelos and new signing Umar Sadiq as their front men and which means that Steven Gerrard desperately needs a backup for that particular position.

Rangers have loaned out Eduardo Herrera to Mexican side Santos Laguna meaning that if Morelos and Sadiq fail to deliver then Gerrard will have no fallback option.

After Rangers drew their second leg game 0-0 the fans have been calling out to the club asking them to bring a new striker but now Steven Gerrard’s has claimed that he does not wish to sign a new striker.

The Gers manager has made it clear that he has no intention of bringing in a new forward hinting to the fact that the manager is willing to lay his faith on his current lot.

But he has also added that if Alfredo and Sadiq cannot pull up their socks during the coming few weeks then he will not shy away from bringing a new signing at Ibrox.

Talking to the Scottish Sun, Gerrard said: “I don’t want to go out and do that, but the games will get more difficult now,

“I think if I’m candid about it, the people that can score goals and create quality for us are in that dressing room. I have said they are here.”

“We almost, with all due respect, treated these two games as pre-season. Pre-season is done now. Next week I can’t talk about tuning up and sharpening up. We are four weeks in now. Those players have to start delivering in the final third. There needs to be more quality. I can’t be any more candid about it,”

As per the current transfer rumours, Rangers are eyeing a loan move for Liverpool striker Divock Origi who is also in the radar of Newcastle United.

Another report suggests that Steven Gerrard might use his good connection with Rafa Benitez and try to bring Magpies striker Ivan Toney to Ibrox before the end of the transfer window.
