Hakim Ziyech has had a mixed time at Chelsea and according to Rafael Van der Vaart, the forward should have joined Tottenham Hotspur.

The 28-year-old was brought in as part of a major overhaul at Stamford Bridge last season but he is yet to carve out a niche for him at the club.

Owing to the system that Thomas Tuchel plays, Ziyech’s chances in the starting line up have become really limited as he is fighting with players like Mount, Werner and Havertz for his position.

And this is why Van de Vaart believes the Moroccon international should have opted to join Spurs, a club where he could have made much more impact.

The ex-Spurs man said, as quoted: he said: “With hindsight, it’s easy, but I think it was a wrong choice.

“I hope he still fully blossoms, but if he had gone to Tottenham, for example. They are lacking a player like him. He played very well at Ajax and did the same against Tottenham. Just take him then.

“With a player like that, Tottenham are title contenders, and they’re not now because they have all the same kind of players.

“It was a pity he went to Chelsea.”

Should Hakim Ziyech have joined Tottenham Hotspur and not Chelsea?

Last season Hakim Ziyech played in only 23 Premier League games for Chelsea, out of which only 15 were starts. And in those appearances, he could only manage two goals and three assists.

These are nowhere close to impactful numbers and maybe this is why Thomas Tuchel is beginning to turn Kia Havertz a lot more this time around.

In this campaign, Ziyech has started only one game in the league and this is a clear indication that he’s fallen down the pecking order.

We can’t say for sure if he would have been a success at Spurs, but with the Lilywhites he would have at least seen a lot more game time.
