Man Utd urged to sign this tried & tested forward instead of Erling Haaland: Can they?

Graeme Souness has urged Manchester United to go after Harry Kane during the summer instead of signing Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland is the most talked about player right now and it’s almost certain the player will be on his way out of Dortmund. And Man United are one of the many clubs who are interested in signing him for the upcoming season.

But according to Souness, Man United should be looking to make a move for Harry Kane in the summer, primarily since the 27-year-old is well versed with the proceedings in England.

“For Manchester United to get closer to Manchester City next season, their priority this summer has to be to sign a top striker and it looks like a few may be on the market,” Souness told The Times, as quoted.

“If they could get either Erling Haaland or Harry Kane, they would become real contenders.

“If you pushed me, I’d go for Kane, who turns 28 this summer, because he’s a proven performer in the Premier League and still has several years left at his peak. The only question mark is the ankle injuries he seems susceptible to.

“With Haaland, who is only 20, you will pay a premium for his enormous potential.

“We’ve seen Kai Havertz and Timo Werner do well in Germany, then come to Chelsea and find life more difficult in England.

“Will Haaland be like that? I don’t think so, because he’s more powerful and aggressive than they are, but he didn’t score in the two games against City and it’s a possibility.

“Would he be open to moving to Old Trafford? Maybe not, maybe he grew up disliking them because of what happened to his dad, Alf-Inge, who was seriously injured playing against them.”

Haaland has been the talk of the town in the Bundesliga but he had two really muted performances against Manchester City in the Champions League recently. And, in all honestly, a lot of promising players have fallen prey to the intensity of the Premier League over the years.

Harry Kane, on the other hand, has been plying his trade in England since the very beginning and he has been the best striker in the land for a couple of seasons now.

Erling Haaland has scored 21 goals in the Bundesliga this season while Kane has the same number of goals in the English top division. But any major football fan will know that Harry Kane’s goals hold much more value.

If Spurs cannot qualify for the Champions League next season the there’s a big chance Harry Kane will look to move out of the club in the summer. And if he’s available in the market then Man United will surely try and sign him.
