FC Barcelona plan to sign a new centre-back in the summer and according to Fabrizio Romano, the Catalans are keen to make a move for England international Harry Maguire.

Yes, Harry Maguire, a player who has been under the scanner all throughout the 21/22 season is now wanted by Xavi at Barcelona and this is great news for Erik ten Hag.

Ten Hag had recently claimed that Harry Maguire is an integral part of the squad but still rumours are ripe that the new boss wants to bring in a new ball-playing central defence.

Erik Ten Hag said in a recent interview: “I have to repeat that next season is a different season but I think he did a great job.

“He’s a great player, he’s achieved already a lot really also with his contribution to Manchester United. So I’m looking forward to working with him.”

However, finding a buyer for him won’t be easy because United paid a hell lot of money for the defender in 2019 and since his contract expires in 2025 the club will have to suffer major losses if the new boss wants to replace him.

Is there a possibility of Harry Maguire joining FC Barcelona?

Maguire is expected to have a face-to-face conversation with the new manager in order to determine his future so there’s still a long way to go in this transfer race.

If ETH wants to give the club captain a chance to prove himself during the pre-season camp then Barcelona will promptly shift their focus to another target because they won’t be ready to play the waiting game.

Ultimately, there’s every chance that Maguire is sold before the next season begins but it might not necessarily be a transfer to the Camp Nou.

Will Erik ten Hag be inclined to sell Harry Maguire?

It’s an open secret that the new Manchester United manager wants to bring in a new central defender as the club are being constantly linked with players like Jurrien Timber and Pau Torres.

Both of these names have been discussed internally in the previous few weeks and while Timber will be a slightly gamble signing someone like Torres can very well change the fortunes of the side.

The Dutch manager has more or less understood that Harry Maguire is not a ball-playing central defender and for the kind of football he wants to play at Man United, ETH needs two centre-backs who are pacey and can come out of defence with the ball at their feet.

We have a strong feeling the club will seriously look to offload Maguire if the right offer comes in just so that they can make room for someone like Pau Torres or Ajax’s Jurrien Timber.
